Foundation day Activities: A review

     The MAPEH bureau gave its all during its December 16 -17, 2009 culminating activity which coincided with the 56th Foundation Day of Quezon City Academy. The bureau introduced the selection of “Ginoo at Binibini Palarong Lahi” which became a hit with the student.
     Contestants were assigned to introduce different native games. After introducing themselves they discussed the history of the native game and how the game is played.
     The first year representatives were: Llib Lisondra and Diana Kiaco of Agap 1 (labtikaray); Renz Garraez and Julia Bartolome of Agap 2 (tumbang preso); Reigner Reyes and Roderica Taroy of Bait (sintak); Rafael De Jesus and Klarizze Javier of Dangal (patintero); Clarence Gonzales and Denise Geron of Giting (palo sebo); Christopher Concepcion and Rose Leanne Escurel of Husay (sungka); Jerome Sison and Micca Shane Ortiz of Ingat (langit at lupa); Earl Christian Herbert Baetiong and Nathalie Faye Tuazon of Kusa (jack en’ poy); and Jonas Cruz and Karylle Teng of Lingap (takip silim).
     The second year representatives were Francival Dator and Mary Roanne Gimenez of Ageo (luksong lubid); Jesse Cart Mata and Lovely Gregorio of Amos (sulot); Daniel Limpin and Kriscia Pascual of Daniel (agawang base); Hubert Howell Lacsi and Ma. Antoinnette Marcelino of Esther (turumpo); Stephen Soliven and Zarina Romano of Habacuc (laglag panyo); Paul Angelo Marciano and Louise Mikaella Rivera of Isaias (pitik bulag); Jericho Tan and Flojane Enrique of Job (tsato) ; and Jerome Villegas and Megumie Alejos of Jonas(teks).
     The third year representatives were Christian Baldo and Mille Jeline Jalandoni of Antimony (halap-halap); Janzen Abrajano and Allyana Tabanguil of Barium (dama); Jomari Peños and Rio Ko of Copper (Sipa); James Robielos and Joanna Solis of Gold (tago at pong); Jelu Sarilla and Kamille De Lemos of Iron (kadang - kadang); Kim Fonte and Michelle Fabello of Lead (pikong talisod); Romel Basada and Jazmin Dela Cruz of Mercury (badminton); and Mak Platino and Kim Owera of Nickel (laglag panyo).
     The fourth year representatives were Ralph Martires and Andrea Gertes of Abad Santos (habulang bato); Prince Zhedy Anthony Repalda and Patricia Banguis of Benitez (juego de anillo); and Wilson Tingson and Marielle Andres of Dagohoy (tag of war).
     Ralph Martires and Andrea Gertes were hailed as “Ginoo at Binibining Palaro ng Lahi ‘09”.
     The judges were Mr. Romeo Mangabat, Mrs. Jevina Sorongon and Ms. Merlyn Eligio.





Paligsayawan

     Paligsayawan is an inter-year contest related to dancing. Every section in each year level represented a category, such as, calisthenics, folk dance, interpretative dance, social dance and rock and roll.
   Calisthenics was presented by sections Agap I, Daniel, Mercury and Malvar. The latter bagged the victory.
     On the other hand, sections Bait, Amos, Barium and Escoda were the contestants in the Folk Dance category. Section Amos was the victor.
     Meanwhile, interpretative dance was presented by sections Lingap, Habacuc, Antimony and Dagohoy.  Antimony won in this category.
     In social dance, Abad Santos won over Husay, Esther and Iron with loud applause from the audience. In he end, Abad Santos amused the audience and won.
     Likewise, Agap 2, brought home the beacon in the rock-and-roll category over ageo and Silang.

    


    

Palig-awitan

   Excitement, tension, and adrenaline rush were experienced by the audience in the Palig-Awitan. The Palig-Awitan was held in the afternoon of December 17.  Mr. Francisco Rivera, MAPEH teacher remarked: “The Palig-Awitan is a way for students to appreciate the essence of music.”  Each year level representative battled to get a title for each category namely: patriotic song, love song, Christmas song, and the cheering.
   Sections Bait, Job, Copper and Hidalgo competed in “awiting makabayan”; Section Hidalgo won. The second event, love song, was competed by sections Dangal, Jonas, Gold and Felipe. Section Dangal impressed the audience and the judges with their songs “Ikaw Nga” and “Mr. Dreamboy”. On the other hand, Giting, Isaias, nickel and Benitez contended in presenting Christmas songs.  First year Giting that interpreted the songs “Kumukutitap “and “Star ng Pasko” bagged the victory and received the highest points among all the winners in other categories. Lastly was the cheering competition, where Lead led Ingat, Ageo, and Calderon. They really performed with eagerness and passion to win.  The program was hosted by Shane Manong of Abad Santos, director of Bureau of MAPEH Studies, Jessica Almondia of IV-Hidalgo, and Brandon Ramirez of IV- Felipe.
     President Tomas C. Ongoco, in his closing remarks on the last day of the MAPEH activities lauded Manong, Almondia, Ramirez, Miss Belinda Mijares and other MAPEH teachers for the A-1 efforts in the bureau’s activities.

    


    

Echoes of Intrams ‘09

     Intramurals 2009 was a three-month run of thunderous roars and cheers from October to last December 17. Shane Manong, director of Bureau of MAPEH cannot be but proud of the success of the sports development in Quezon City Academy where sports heroes rose and heels were born. Equally exultant were Mrs. Belinda Mijares and Mr. Francisco Rivera; the bureau adviser and sports director respectively.
     This year’s sports program was launched with matches for basketball and volleyball between year level sections. Then early December, they opened the inter-games composed of badminton, table tennis, chess and darts.
     The year level winners faced other year level victors in the championship games. After the championship games, Mr. Rivera led the awarding ceremonies for the champions and winners of the inter-games.
     III-Nickel dominated IV-Hidalgo as they were hailed champions of basketball boys division. III-Lead bowed down to the seniors’ pride, IV-Felipe in basketball girls.
     In volleyball, IV-Hidalgo beat III-Mercury girls while III-Lead claimed the victory against IV-Hidalgo boys.
     Other intrams winners were: Jonathan Miranda and Krizzette Mendoza of Abad Santos (darts doubles); Jonathan Miranda (darts singles); Krizzette Mendoza (darts singles); Kenneth Mateo and Hans Justine Cachola (IV-Abad Santos) (table tennis mixed doubles); Ralph Martirez (chess). Marina Bagayao of III-Gold (badminton doubles); Cicel Echavez of III-Gold (badminton singles) and Dominic Barga of I-Agap 1 (badminton singles).
     Hail the champions.
