Fun learning through Academic Bash
By Anjheleen Urbano
Learning is a life process. It never stops. We continue to learn and discover new things each day, however immense or little, we learn.
We, students, are obliged to study the lessons in school for a minimum of 14 years to be well-equipped of the knowledge we need for our future employment - our career. Unfortunately, some students nowadays seem to do nothing for the entire six hours in school. They do not participate or interact during the class discussion. Thus, for them, classes are boring. The learning process in six hours of sitting and listening might be boring if the student doesn’t prepare himself for the lesson.
Fortunately, QCA have more than just this process of teaching students, and that is through extra curricular activities. The school has set a yearly educational programs and activities wherein students can learn and participate while enjoying like in Filipino and English Fests, UN month, and MAPEH week celebration. And this month, we will have the academic bash.
It has been a tradition in QCA that the month of January is a month for integrated learning. We have our yearly Academic Bash wherein students actively participate in academic activities and challenges that hone their physical and mental skills. There would be investigatory and recycling exhibits, education forum, and science congress, academic challenge among sections. These learning activities are something different from the typical classroom situation.
In particular, the presentation of investigatory projects and display of recycled materials would benefit both the student presenter and the audience. The student presenters would research on a certain topic and would be exposed to the panel of invited judges, teachers and fellow students as they explain and defend their research and what they have discovered from it. This would enhance their investigative skills and their communication skills as well. The audience would gather fresh information regarding the projects on the exhibits as an additional knowledge and could be a reference for future study. On the other hand, those who created new objects from recycled materials could become enterprising business people in the future.
Meanwhile, the academic contests like MathSci Bee and Academic Challenge encourage students to study more by stretching out their minds in different challenges and activities throughout the contest. These contests require thinking in the least time which hones their thinking skills.
Students also get a bonus for their effort and active participation in the program. At the end of the “integrated learning month”, students are lauded. It also feels better to have merits and be known for it.
So, why not join the bash?
May you have a happy learning experience! |
