PRES. TCO, 82 on November 28

           
January 28 is a remarkable day in QCA. It is the 82nd birth anniversary of its president, father and grandfather ‘lolo SIR’, Professor Tomas C. Ongoco.
   TCO, loves to be introduced as a native of Abucay, Bataan and as “anak nina Severino (Binong) Oliveria Ongoco and Silvestra (Bestra) Samson Caragay”.  He was born on January 28, 1928 on the feast day of St. Thomas of Aquinas.
   He took BS in Education in MLQ University and graduated in 1952, cum laude. He enrolled in a doctoral class in Centro Escolar University but did not pursue the course due to pressure of office work as assistant director, Science Foundation of the Philippines; finished the one-month Executive Leadership Management  (ELM 5) of the Civil Service Commission in the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City in 1980; Seminar-workshops, local and abroad. He is an author-educator and has written textbooks and coffee table books.
    He is an adviser of Association of Science Teachers and Educators of the Philippines (ASTEP); Board Member, Alberto-Enrico Educational Center (AEEC); Education Director and Founding Member Earth Savers Movement; Editorial Adviser, Firefly, magazine for teachers; Editorial Consultant, Science Club Magazine; Vice President, MLQU Alumni Association.

                                    He is a HUWARANG PILIPINO awardee in Literature and History (2001) and in Education (2003) and finally elevated to the Hall of Fame in 2008. An awardee of Fr. Neri Satur for Environmental Heroism and Diamond Laurel Award given by Quezon City Academy. He was formerly Acting Director, Science Foundation of the Philippines, NSDB, that worked on public understanding of science , technology and environment; a professorial lecturer in MLQ University’s School of Education; copy editor, Liwayway magazine; founding editor, Tinig ng Bataan (first provincial paper in Bataan), editor, the Quezonian, campus paper of MLQ University (1951); gives lectures on garbology (solid waste management), science fairs and ecosystem expositions, herbal medicines, the art of translation, Filipino at English sa Malikhaing Pag-uugnayan.
