Periscope: Reasons behind Failure
By Janssen Rae Ramos
Goodbye 2009. Welcome 2010! QCA student government leaders are now giving their leadership a review. They are looking for improvement and changes in their management and leadership. What are they? What are the reasons behind some of their away leadership? Let us tackle these things freely.
Some of these are: the “mañana habit”, the lack of knowledge about the work they have to do, lack of stick-to-itiveness and lack of love for work. These are the traits of most of our country’s government officials. That’s why they are inept. If our SG leaders possess these characteristics, what will be the result?
First if the “mañana habit” is not remedied, what? We inherited the cultural flaw from the Spaniards whose blood is still running through our veins. This habit causes us to remain idle, then at the eleventh hour, rush work to catch up with the deadline. Then we say: “Ok na yan”. This should habit results in great waste of time, money and skills.
Second is the lack of knowledge about the work. This leads the leaders to make inaccurate actions that make the work incoherent to what is being intended. To prevent this, we need to know the field where we excel so that we may show all our skills and talents and apply the latter in work effectively.
The third one is the diversion of time on several projects to receive and earn points. These leaders fail to work effectively and efficiently.
The lack of love for work results in no project accomplishment or mediocrity. And this is the most common behavior of some of the student leaders. Their aim is simply to get high CECA points. They are forgetting the real sense of their work and its value.
Luckily, there is a move by the Principal to conduct training of first to third year academically strong SG leaders on what and how to be a leader, with the assistance of Pres. Tomas C. Ongoco.
In the last whole day training on last Saturday, January 9, student leaders learned a lot (not previously clear) about duties and responsibilities through a more careful reading of the Student Manual.
As one of the SG leaders in the training I fully appreciate all the trainings that our school is giving us. Failure is never an option. But everyone makes mistakes. That’s why a pencil has an eraser. Let us develop ourselves into efficient student leaders for the good of the next generation. Mabuhay ang Pilipino!
