LITERARY ATTEMPTS
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
By Charlotte Jazmine L. Lucas I- Agap 2
What do you think of the world today, the Earth, a place we call home?
In the past millions of years ago, the Earth was peaceful. The organisms on Earth lived in peace and harmony, 98% of them are extinct.
The rivers in the planet flowed as nature wanted it to flow. The ancient animals went wherever the rivers would take them. Gigantic plants grew provided food for huge dinosaurs that dominated the globe. The Earth was small, but it had all provisions for habitation.
It was more than 200,000 years ago, when we, the humans, were mysteriously born, multiplied and took over the Earth. We owned and manipulated everything in sight, as if there was no tomorrow. We discovered ways to improve human civilization. Century per century, we invented machines and technology to “make our work easier”. And yet, we forgot one thing - conservation of planet, our home. Yes, the Earth. Looking at it today, we’re suffering from poverty, waste problems, corruption, famine and the threatening Global Warming. If we are keen observers though we are young, we could see that. We are sinking on our own problems. Nowadays, when we do something good, we call it “saving the earth” just to be humane. But it seems Mother Nature is slowly taking revenge on us. The Earth isn’t the same as before.
We need to stop this before those frightening “end-of-the-world” scenarios happen. Mankind started all of these senseless wars, turmoil, and chaos. And only man has the power to stop it. We need to focus on much more valuable things rather than being lazy couch potatoes. We have to make a difference. We don’t want human civilization to cease because of this. We especially don’t want a dirty and cluttered future. So, for the sake of what we had yesterday let us made a worthwhile life today, and prepare the youth of tomorrow.
If heaven were the kingdom of God
By Angie Lyne Capopez I-Agap2
If heaven were the kingdom of God,
Then land is the vicinity of man.
And this vicinity is where we live in,
Where man can rely on everything.
The green color of its hair,
The brownish skin of its body
Tells how long it takes for him
To supply our daily living.
The cool breeze that whistles from west to east
Is the invisible thing we feel.
The harmonic silence that it brings
Reminds us how life was changing.
Clear as crystal, pure as heart
Flows on every thirsty land.
Cleanses the body and the mind
Refreshes us if we feel tired.
If plants and trees are our providers,
And air and water is our great comforter,
Why do we harm them so easily
and took advantage of its richness? |
